Our take
A terroir restaurant at the foot of the Sancy, without folkloric caricature. Truffade with Saint-Nectaire, carefully prepared fish, AOP (protected designation of origin) products and a view of the Sancy from the panoramic terrace.
The restaurant of the Puy Ferrand hotel, at the foot of the Sancy slopes. Home-made Auvergne cooking, a fireplace in winter, a terrace with a view in summer.
The Puy Ferrand stands at the foot of the slopes, right at the top of the Mont-Dore resort, with the Sancy planted directly opposite. La Table de l'Ours is the restaurant of this mountain hotel: wood panelling, a fireplace that crackles in winter, and a panoramic terrace as soon as the sun returns.
In the kitchen, Sébastien Defrance cooks terroir without caricature. On the summer 2026 menu: truffade with Saint-Nectaire, stuffed cabbage, hake in a Cantal crust, bavette with Bleu d'Auvergne sauce or pepper sauce. In winter, the restaurant lists truffade, petit salé with lentils and raclette. Portions that stick to your ribs after a day of skiing or hiking.
On the summer 2026 menu, dishes run from €17.70 (daily special) to €41 (truffade with morels), and the truffade with Saint-Nectaire is €19.90. You can book and pay by card, parking is free and the entrance is level. Dogs are welcome in the dining room and on the terrace, and groups of up to 120 people.
Our take, frankly: a safe bet for eating Auvergne food at altitude, with the view as a bonus. If you stay on site, half board is offered (from €96 to €106 per person in a double room, 2025-2026 prices); and keep the meal tray in mind if you arrive late in the evening.
