The Sancy and Lac Chambon seen from the sky at sunrise. Allow about an hour in the air, and book early for weekends and school holidays.
Auvergne Montgolfière launches its balloons from two bases: the Massif du Sancy with Lac Chambon, the Château de Murol and Besse, or the Chaîne des Puys on the Puy de Dôme side. On the Sancy side, the meeting point is reached from Murol or Saint-Nectaire; on the Chaîne des Puys side, it is near Volvic or Orcines. The flight lasts about an hour, for a total experience of three to four hours (meeting point, inflating the balloon, flight, then a friendly get-together at the end of the flight). You rise above sleeping volcanoes, lakes and villages; on the Chaîne des Puys side, you fly over a UNESCO World Heritage site. Flights at sunrise or sunset, generally from April to the end of October.

Top tip
The flight depends on the weather, above all the wind: book in advance, especially for weekends and school holidays, and keep some flexibility in your schedule. From age 8 and 1.30 m tall.
Before you go
- In 2026, adult ticket €329 including tax (€344 with free choice of take-off base), child ticket up to age 14 €275 including tax, duo ticket €619 including tax. Tickets valid for two years from the date of purchase.
- Minimum age 8 and minimum height 1.30 m. Flights are not possible for pregnant women. People with reduced mobility: say so when you book; a flight is sometimes possible, depending on your ability to climb in and out of the basket safely.
- The flight is set by the wind, not by a timetable: keep a backup date during your stay.
- Allow three to four hours in all for about an hour of flying.
