A road pass at 1,401 m altitude between Le Mont-Dore and Chambon-sur-Lac, on the D996. The classic starting point for the Puy de la Tâche hike (1,632 m, 1 hour 30 round trip), which can be extended to the Puy de l'Angle (1,738 m) via the Puy de Monne and the Puy Barbier. On the way up the Puy de la Tâche, the view plunges down to the Lac de Guéry; from the summit, it sweeps right round the Sancy. Free parking and public toilets at the pass. The road may close occasionally in winter during snowfalls.

Top tip
For the Puy de la Tâche, go through the little gate and climb: allow 1 hour 30 there and back, the slope is steep in places, and dogs are not allowed on this path. From 1 November to 31 March, winter equipment is compulsory, and the road may close in snowy weather.

- Walking shoes for the Puy de la Tâche, the climb is steep in places. From 1 November to 31 March, winter equipment compulsory for the car.
- On the D996 between Le Mont-Dore and Chambon-sur-Lac; occasional closures possible in winter during snowfalls (snow equipment compulsory from 1 November to 31 March).
