Our take

Two waterfalls for the price of one, ten minutes there and back from the hamlet, on an easy path. A cool break in summer, often a frozen scene in winter.

Two falls on the Couze d'Ardes, in the heart of the Cézallier, ten minutes' walk there and back from the hamlet of Jassy. Cool in summer, generally frozen in winter.

Here we're talking waterfalls, plural: two falls one after the other on the Couze d'Ardes, in the heart of the Cézallier, just downstream of the hamlet of Jassy, at a little over 1,100 m altitude. The Lac de Roche Orcine, in the same locality, can be visited straight afterwards.

Access is easy. From the hamlet, you follow the “cascades 1 et 2” signs, then a small path runs along the river and links the two falls. Allow about ten minutes there and back, nothing tough.

In summer, it's a cool break by the water when it's hot. In winter, the two falls are generally frozen.

Why we love it

  • The Couze d'Ardes leaping twice in a row, on the same path
  • A cool break by the water in midsummer
  • The falls, generally frozen in winter
  • The hamlet of Jassy, set at over 1,100 m in the heart of the Cézallier

Top tip

Drive up to the hamlet of Jassy: the path to the falls starts there, just follow the “cascades 1 et 2” signs.

Before you go

  • Summer when it's hot, for the coolness of the falls, or winter, when they are generally frozen.
  • On site, look for the “cascades 1 et 2” signs: they lead you from one fall to the other.
  • In summer, it's a cool break in the heat. In winter, the falls are generally frozen: two very different visits.
