Our take

A short, shady path goes down to the bottom of the gorges, where the Cère runs between 30-metre walls carved by a glacier. And for the Roucolle waterfall, a raised viewpoint.

A walk under the trees to the waterfall and cliffs of the Pas de Cère, at Thiézac.

From the car park beside the RN122, at Thiézac, a waymarked path heads in under the trees and down to the Cère. At the bottom, the river runs between 30-metre walls: a glacier carved a deep cut here in the volcanic rock. Allow 2 km there and back and about 1 hour, with 150 m of ascent. A good part of the path is in the shade, and the water's edge brings a little coolness. In winter, the way through the gorges can become impossible because of the water level.

The Roucolle waterfall, for its part, is seen from a raised viewpoint. A path links it to the Pas de Cère (3 km there and back), and the way is much shorter from the Roucolle car park, on the RN122 between Thiézac and Vic-sur-Cère.
