Jassy

This walk immerses you in the landscapes of the Cézallier. You will cross an immense rolling carpet of grass, sometimes bristling with conifers, and be surrounded by the floral richness of the summer pastures and meadows, the peat bogs, and exceptional wildlife and plants. You will learn more about the way people's livestock farming shapes the open landscapes, and about the lakes of En Bas and Roche Orcines. Enjoy the power of the landscape, the wind (often) and the calm.

From the start sign on the D32, opposite the town hall of La Godivelle, stay on the main road, go past the cemetery (view of the Massif du Sancy) and follow the road for 500 m to a junction with a path on the left.

Go down, cross a footbridge and enter the wood on the right. On leaving the wood, carry straight on. At the crossroads, climb to the left. At the next junction, go right onto a path running alongside a wide stony track. At the T-junction, go right. At Brion, just before the road, climb the path on the right. Cross the road, take the path opposite and carry straight on. At the fork (gîte d'étape, walkers' lodging), climb to the right. At the main road, go right between the houses to a T-junction.

Cross the road and continue opposite on a path between 2 fences (Off the route, 20 minutes there and back: climb the road on the right to reach the foirail (fairground) then the top of the feudal motte of Brion, panoramic view). At the T-junction, turn right then immediately left. At a road, climb a wide path opposite. At the T-junction, go right. At the road, go down to the left. At Jassy, go right, cross the bridge and carry on to the next junction. (Before the bridge, off the route: the Jassy waterfalls, 10 minutes there and back).

Turn right onto the small road leading to the Lac de St-Alyre. Cross the dam. Walk along the lake, then climb towards a fence which you follow on your right. Cross it by a stile and follow it on your left (after the 3rd stile, view of La Godivelle and the Lac d'en Bas). Go down to the farm, rejoin the road and climb to the left to return to the starting point.
