Our take
A Murat shop on a short supply chain, that vacuum-packs your cheeses on request, with an insulated bag and an ice pack: a way to take a piece of the Cantal home with you.
Cheese shop and regional-produce grocer in Murat: Salers AOP tradition, farmhouse Saint-Nectaire, Salers cow saucissons (dry sausages) and ready meals.
On rue Justin Vigier in Murat, this cheese shop has a history going back to the 1960s. It works on a short supply chain with more than twenty farmers who use responsible or organic farming methods: Salers, blue cheese, Saint-Nectaire, Fourme d'Ambert, goat's cheese, sheep's-milk tome, but also butter, eggs and honey.
On the cheese side, the shop highlights a Salers AOP tradition, a “haut herbage” Cantal entre-deux (medium-aged) and a farmhouse Saint-Nectaire matured in a natural cellar. Around them, saucissons (dry sausages) made 100% from Salers cow, ready meals (tripoux, truffade, aligot) and craft liqueurs.
A little anecdote: caldera is the geological name for a volcano's crater, and the word means cauldron. Got a long drive ahead? Products can be vacuum-packed on request, with an insulated bag and an ice pack.
