A bistro-inn in the heart of Pailherols, a mountain village that has kept its character, at 1,042 m altitude. Regional cooking: truffade (sliced potatoes with melted cheese), aligot (mashed potato stretched with cheese), Salers beef, AOP (protected designation of origin) cheeses. Vaulted stone dining room, mountain inn atmosphere. Allow €18-26 a dish, a menu around €28-32. Lunch service every day except Saturday. In the evening, occasional opening on Friday and Saturday, mostly for groups: better to call before you make the trip. Terrace in summer on the square.

Top tip
A truffade to share between two is the ideal way to start. Regular service is at lunchtime; evening opening is only occasional, so call before you come. Easy to combine with a hike to the burons (herders' stone huts) in the area. The Cascade de Faillitoux, on the other hand, is over towards Thiézac: you will need the car.
