Our take

Eat at 1,780 m facing the Sancy massif without having walked. You step out of the cabin, settle on the terrace, and the landscape does the rest.

The restaurant at the top of the Sancy cable car, at 1,780 m: truffade, tartiflette and a terrace facing the massif, no reservations.

Le Sommet is the restaurant sitting at the top of the Sancy cable car, at 1,780 m. You ride up in the cabin from Le Mont-Dore and, instead of heading straight for the summit, you settle on the terrace facing the massif.

The menu keeps to the essentials: truffade, tartiflette, a few starters and desserts. Allow €18 to €27 for a main, €5 to €8 for a starter, €7.50 to €9.50 for a dessert and €13.50 for the children's plate. The restaurant doesn't take reservations: you sit down and you order.

Opening hours follow those of the cable car: 9:00 to 17:45 in summer, 9:00 to 16:45 in winter, seven days a week. Out of season, closed on Monday. The cable car is a paid ride and stops between seasons for maintenance (in 2026, from 31 August to 18 December): check that it is running before you make the trip. The summit of the Sancy itself is still about twenty minutes' walk above, up a staircase closed in winter: save some breath for the end.
