Our take

Settle a whole tribe, a class or a club in the highest village in the Massif Central, with meals cooked on site. No logistics to handle.

Group accommodation in Les Estables, at the foot of the Mézenc: two chalets, full or half board, for school classes, clubs and big family gatherings.

In Les Estables, the highest village in the Massif Central (1,343 m), Les Chalets du Mézenc welcomes groups, at the foot of Mont Mézenc (1,753 m), in the Parc naturel régional des Monts d'Ardèche.

Two buildings share the grounds: the Grand Chalet, with around 110 beds, and the Petit Chalet, with about forty. Rooms have 2 to 8 beds, all with shower and WC. You stay on half board or full board, and the cooking is done on site with local produce: you don't have to organise the meals of a whole tribe.

The format is aimed at school trips, sports clubs, seminars and big family gatherings. In winter, the chalets offer cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding; the rest of the year, hiking, mountain biking and climbing. The Petit Chalet has the Tourisme & Handicap label.

Our take: the comfort is that of a group gîte. For putting up twenty, fifty or a hundred people without handling the logistics, it's made for the job. Booking by quote, closed in November.
