The feel of the route
The buried hoard of the barons of the Mézenc at Chaudeyrolles: My grandmother used to tell me: “Up there, at the foot of the Mézenc, a hoard is hidden under one of the three Dents du Diable (Devil's Teeth): it is the hoard of the Lords of the Mézenc.
On Christmas night, when the burle (a strong, cold wind) is blowing, the stone that blocks the entrance to the underground passage opens by itself. But the entrance is guarded by an enormous toad! To pay the toll for passage, you must offer it a newborn baby. Will you sell your soul to the devil?”
