Musée Surréaliste Boucheix

Private museum of the painter François Boucheix, on rue Sornin in Vichy, opened by the artist in December 2006. Born in 1940 in Montcheneix, in the heart of the Auvergne mountains, he is the forerunner of “rêverisme”: a style of painting that draws on Surrealism, very colourful, which he intends to be optimistic and full of musical instruments. Canvases and bronzes span more than fifty years of his career, in a Napoleon III-style building that was the Alhambra, a music hall in Vichy. Some works tell you their story in the painter's own voice.

The museum opens in the afternoon in the warmer months (in 2025: Tuesday to Sunday, from 14:30 to 18:30, until 30 September), but the days change from one year to the next: a phone call before you come saves you from a closed door.
