From Mazayes to Laschamps (stage 3 of the Dômes loop)

The route begins in a forest setting shaped by the volcanic eruption of the Puy de Côme, which left a jumble of volcanic rock; you will skirt the Puy du Grand Suchet before reaching the summit of the Giant of the Dômes.

Follow the road towards Ceyssat to reach Mazayes-Basses.

After passing the church, climb to the right at the cross. At the top of the hill, carry straight on. At Petit Chambois, keep to the right of the fountain and go past Les Combes. Cross the road and join Grand Chambois.

At the cross, climb to the left until you reach the square with a fountain. Turn right towards the Puy de Dôme. At the road, continue left to the second path on the right. Take it and continue into the forest. Carry straight on, ignoring the paths on either side, until the crossroads above an old quarry.

Turn right towards Laschamps, and at the T-junction, turn left. At the stony track, turn left, then right. At the fenced area, go right for 50 m.

Leave the broad path and turn right onto a barely visible path. Before the wide track, continue right on the path, and right again at the parking area.

Follow the departmental road and turn left at the "forêt syndicale de Ceyssat" sign. At the fork, take the path on the left. Carry straight on, then take the second path on the left. Go straight on to the junction, at the foot of the Puy de Côme.

Follow the direction of the Puy de Dôme. At the fork on leaving the wood, turn left onto the heathland then into the woods. At the fork, continue left, then right, then straight on for 400 m. At the crossroads, take the path on the right that climbs towards the Nid de la Poule. Take the steps, then the road to reach the platform of the Puy de Dôme station.

Come back down the Puy de Dôme towards the Col de Ceyssat. Follow the road, then the path that leads into the forest. Ignore the paths on either side to rejoin the road. Cross the departmental road and carry straight on until you reach the starting point at Laschamps.
