The feel of the route

This easy trail will let you observe the mosaic of highly contrasting natural environments of the Bois de Marilhou, home to a rich, diverse and protected flora and fauna. With no fewer than 277 plant species recorded, you are sure to make some fine discoveries. Step into the wood and the murmur of water will accompany you throughout your walk, ending with the roar of the waterfall. The site is also steeped in history and legends: the Cases de Cotteughes, whose remains you can appreciate, bear witness to the presence of people who settled the place during the Middle Ages. For a more playful walk, follow the educational stops of the discovery trail, which takes you in the footsteps of the inhabitants of Cotteughes, as far as the site of the witch's treasure!

The route in detail

Dirt path, crossing the D30 twice. Follow the yellow waymarking. Start - At the start sign, take the wide track opposite that heads into the beech wood, cross the stream and carry straight on.

To follow the discovery trail, or if you simply want to see the remains of the Cases de Cotteughes, make a there-and-back trip into the clearing along the path that climbs straight ahead. Then go past the huts on your left and take the forest track on the right, which zigzags down through the fir wood.

At the crossing, turn left and carry straight on along a wide track.

Carry straight on.

Turn right, then turn left. Pass on your right the site of the Château de la Plounque.

Turn right and go down to the Marilhou stream. Cross the footbridge and climb back up to the D30. Turn right and follow the road for about 50 m.

Take the path on the left that climbs into the wood. The track rises through the beech wood. Keep going straight on this wide track, ignoring the junctions.

Go down to the right onto the D30 for about 15 m, then take the path on the left that goes into the wood. Before the footbridge, take the path on the right, there and back, that leads to the waterfall. Cross the footbridge and climb back up opposite to the forest track.

Turn right and carry straight on for about 50 m.

Go left at the crossing and climb back up to the car park.
