Our take

An immense loop of the Sioule around the Murat peninsula, visible in a single glance from a perched viewpoint, a stone's throw from the village church.

The Sioule makes an almost perfect loop around a peninsula, and the Paradis viewpoint puts it before your eyes all at once.

Here, the Sioule turns back on itself. The river draws an immense loop that encircles the Murat peninsula, and you take it all in at once from the village viewpoint, perched high above the water. It is called the Paradis, and for once the nickname needs no explaining.

Access is open and free of charge. You leave the car near the church in Queuille, and carry on on foot: the viewpoint is a stone's throw away. A pay-to-use viewing telescope lets you pick out the details of the loop.

One tip: climb up the old castle motte, just behind the church. This earth mound once carried a defensive structure, and it offers a second perspective on the valley and the Queuille dam.

Why we love it

  • The Sioule almost doing a U-turn around the Murat peninsula, all at once before your eyes
  • A viewing telescope (pay-to-use) to pick out the details of the loop
  • The second view from the castle motte, over the valley and the dam
  • A site with open access all year round, dogs welcome

Top tip

Park near the church, access is on foot. Go on to the castle motte, just behind the church, for a second view of the valley and the dam.

Before you go
