On this easy-rolling route in the Monts Dômes, you will follow in the footsteps of the first maquisards (Resistance fighters) of Auvergne and enjoy viewpoints over the north face of the Chaîne des Puys.

The feel of the route
Setting off from Place des Héros, you will discover the Lespinasse site, headquarters of the Auvergne Resistance fighters. In this land of stonecutters, you will come across works in Volvic stone along the way, as well as a few wash-houses and an old couderc (village green), witnesses to the commune's rural history. Before returning to the start, take a break at the Etang Grand observatory and try to spot the emblematic species of this Espace Naturel Sensible, or sensitive natural area (if you have binoculars, even better!).
The route in detail
Follow the brown waymarking no. 18. Start: Place des Héros.
Turn right onto the track that passes between the houses.
Leave the tarmac road and take a track that climbs straight ahead.
Turn left onto the road. Watch out for traffic.
Leave the road by taking the dirt track on the left. Take care when crossing the road.
Option: leave the main track and leave your bike at the entrance to the Sentier du Grèbe huppé (great crested grebe trail, narrow passage), then walk to the observatory a few metres away.
Bear slightly left to return to Place des Héros.
