Family cheese and dairy shop in Issoire since 1961, with its own maturing cellar on site and its house raw-milk cheese, the Yssoirien.
On rue de la Berbiziale in Issoire, Maison Houlbert has been a cheese shop and dairy since 1961. A family story, passed from father to son, run today by Éric Houlbert, a master artisan cheesemonger and maturer since 2021.
At the counter, AOP, AOC and IGP cheeses (French protected origin labels), and specialities from France and elsewhere. The maturing cellar is on site: the cheeses are matured there for several weeks.
The curiosity here is the Yssoirien: a raw cow's milk cheese built on a Saint-Félicien base, flavoured with herbs, spices, ceps, morels, and even speculoos. It comes in a version for toasting and in a cheeseboard version. On the grocery side, you'll find honey, jams, Échiré butter and Auvergne wines (Boudes, Corent, Châteaugay).
