Our take

Thermal Vichy in a nutshell. You taste the 5 different waters, each with its own taste and temperature, and you watch the curistes (people taking the cure) taking the waters.

The editors · Teddy L.How we choose our places
  • Allow 45 min to 1 h 30 min
  • Free
  • With children: yes
  • Wheelchair accessible

Taste Vichy's 5 mineral springs for free under the great cast-iron hall of 1903. Each has its own taste and virtues: compare them.

Monumental gallery in the heart of Vichy's spa district, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2021. Under a metal-framed glass roof of 1903, you find the fountains of the Chomel (hot, the most used for cures), Grande Grille (the richest in fluoride), Lucas (cold water), Hôpital (rich in carbon dioxide) and Célestins (the least mineralised) springs. Self-service drinking stations, free access and free tasting.

Why we love it

  • The 5 springs to taste at the same counter, for free
  • The 1903 glass roof above the drinking stations
  • The curistes (people taking the cure) filling their graduated glass, a ritual that hasn't changed

Top tip

Taste all 5 springs to compare (free). Bring your own glass, or buy the traditional Vichy glass at the neighbouring tourist office.

Before you go

  • Bring your own glass or buy the Vichy glass at the neighbouring tourist office
  • Come early in the morning, that's when the regulars come
