Studio Escape is three rooms in La Pardieu, on the border between Aubière and Clermont-Ferrand. The principle is classic and effective: you get locked in, and you have sixty minutes to solve the puzzles and get out. There are three scenarios to choose from: a museum heist, a trip through Chinatown at Chinese New Year, and a Mayan temple to explore. You play in groups of two to six per room, with a briefing beforehand and a debrief afterwards; allow an hour and a half on site. The sets are well done and the centre is air-conditioned, which is welcome in the height of summer. It's open late, until midnight at weekends, handy for fitting in a game after a meal out.

Top tip
Book ahead, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings: weekend slots go fast. And the more of you there are, the less the game costs per person.
