The river of the Livradois, from La Chaise-Dieu to Lavaudieu: a wooded valley, waymarked paths and stone villages.
A tributary of the Allier in the Haute-Loire, rising in the Monts du Livradois and flowing into the Allier at Vieille-Brioude. A course of around sixty kilometres through pine and beech woods, farmland and well-preserved villages (La Chaise-Dieu, Paulhaguet, Lavaudieu). You can fish there with a permit. Waymarked walking paths along its course. Free access, from several bridges and villages.

Top tip
Starting from Lavaudieu, a Plus Beau Village de France on the banks of the Senouire, the PR081 loop, graded difficult (13.9 km, 3 hours 30), follows the river in the shade of pines and beeches as far as the Allier. Fishing is allowed with a permit. Avoid it after heavy rain, the paths get muddy.
Before you go
- From La Chaise-Dieu, the PR109 loop (20.6 km, graded difficult) winds along the Senouire, from bridge to bridge
- There are plenty of bridges for getting from one bank to the other: the Guillaumanches bridge is made of a single stone, others, more recent, are wooden
- If you fish, you need a fishing permit: a day permit for one day, or a weekly permit for 7 consecutive days
