Our take
On the Artense plateau, 125 hectares of water to spread out on. Here you can be out on the water in midsummer without the heat of the plain.
The only Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) beach in the Cantal in 2026, 125 hectares of water on the Artense plateau, with Optimist dinghy courses and hire in summer.
On the Artense plateau, in the north of the Cantal, the Lac des Lastioulles stretches out 125 hectares of water edged with forest. Its beach has held the Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) label since 2015, and it is the only one in the Cantal to do so in 2026: supervised swimming in July and August, fine sand, and the Tourisme & Handicap accessibility label. It is also a water sports base, open in the warmer months: you can hire a slide pedalo, paddleboard, single or double kayak, Optimist dinghy and catamaran, with no booking, and children up to 10 can take Optimist dinghy courses there. Picnic tables, children's play equipment, a beach volleyball court, and campsites and accommodation nearby to extend your stay.
Why we love it
- Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) beach since 2015, the only one in the Cantal in 2026
- A water sports base in summer: slide pedalo, paddleboard, kayak, Optimist dinghy, catamaran
- Supervised swimming in summer and Tourisme & Handicap accessibility
