Our take

A waterfall of about 40 metres that you barely have to earn: 800 metres of walking from the village, an easy path, and the chance to go on to the hamlet of Liadouze. The effort-to-reward ratio is excellent.

The guide that goes with itLes plus belles cascades d'Auvergne

A fall of about 40 metres in the forest, 800 metres on foot from the village of Mandailles. An easy family walk in the Jordanne valley.

The Luc stream tumbles down about forty metres in the middle of the forest before joining the Jordanne. A tall, slender fall, ringed by trees.

Getting there is simple: you leave the car at the Maison de site de Mandailles, in the heart of the village, then walk 800 metres on a quiet path. Children keep up without any problem, and it's free.

If you have a little time, carry on to Liadouze, a typical hamlet of the valley. The walk stays easy, and the hamlet is only a few hundred metres from the fall.

Why we love it

  • A tall, slender fall of about forty metres, ringed by trees
  • Free, open access, all year round weather permitting
  • 800 metres of walking from the Maison de site de Mandailles
  • The hamlet of Liadouze, at the end of the walk

Top tip

Carry on to the hamlet of Liadouze rather than turning back: it is only a few hundred metres from the fall, and it is a typical village of the valley.
