Croix de fer

Start from the church in La Renaudie. Go up the main road (D102), then, at the wash house, follow the path (surfaced with tarmac at first) that climbs to the right. Continue through the woods to the hamlet of la Chaunias. Go past the houses and take the road on the left.

(1) At the cross, carry on along the small road straight ahead as far as la Chaumette (viewpoint over the Chaîne des Puys and the Massif du Sancy). In the village, stay on the same road (viewpoint over Pierre sur Haute) and follow it for 300 m to the Croix de l'Hollade (a fine stone cross).

(2) Take the path that climbs into the woods. At the fork, stay on the same path. Go past the croix de fer (iron cross) then, 100 m further on, turn left. Go about 500 metres and fork hard right. After 250 metres, turn left.

(3) In the clearing, follow the forest track bearing slightly left. At the road, turn right. Follow it for 80 m then take the first path on the left. Follow the path through the woods to reach the road again.

(4) Cross it and carry on straight ahead. Keep following the stony track. At the crossroads, take the left-hand path and reach a road again (rest area with some fine upright stones - viewpoint over the Chaîne des Puys and the Massif du Sancy). Take the small road that goes down straight ahead and follow it to the hamlet of la Guérilie.

(5) In the village, pass to the left of the cross and carry straight on. At the cross, turn left and keep to the same path, which climbs to the D 102. Take the road opposite and, 20 m further on, at the fork, bear slightly left. Join the D102 again; follow it straight on, skirt the cemetery and return to the starting point.
