About Grandeyrolles
Grandeyrolles, a small village in the Puy-de-Dôme at 800 m altitude (110 inhabitants) in the Sancy. Known for the Cheminée de Fée (fairy chimney) in the hamlet of Cotteuge (neighbouring Saint-Diéry), a rare geological formation: a cone of clay and volcanic tuff topped by a block of basalt. Unusual accommodation at Auveryourte (Mongolian yurts).
Why we love it
A Cheminée de Fée, rare in Auvergne (commonplace in Cappadocia). Authentic Mongolian yurts at 800 m.
The local's tip
Photograph the Cheminée de Fée at sunset. Book the Auveryourte yurts 3 months ahead in summer.
