The burger that puts Auvergne's AOP (protected designation of origin) cheeses in the bun: Saint-Nectaire, Cantal, Bleu d'Auvergne. Homemade, in Clermont since 2012.
A burger that speaks Auvergnat exists, and it's right here, on boulevard Léon Malfreyt in Clermont. Bougnat Burger has applied one simple idea since 2012: put the terroir in the bun rather than set it down beside it.
On the plate: an artisan burger bun, a butcher-style minced steak, and above all the region's AOP (protected designation of origin) cheeses as the topping. Farmhouse Saint-Nectaire, young Cantal, Bleu d'Auvergne, finished with dry-cured ham, tomato or walnuts. You can have it single or double, and if you don't eat meat, the steak can be swapped for a potato patty. Chips and desserts are homemade. Allow around €16 to €23 a burger (2026 menu), children's menu at €13.90.
The dining room is plain and bright, with a terrace for summer, and booking is easy: a useful habit on Friday and Saturday evenings. It works for families or groups too.
Our take, honestly: it's the burger that owns its region without dressing up as fast food. The bun holds up, the cheese is generous, and you can taste that it's homemade. Our advice: the Bleu d'Auvergne version, the boldest on the menu.
