Our take
Wakeboarding without a boat or a licence, less than an hour from Vichy. Kneeboarding makes a first go accessible from age 8, and experienced riders have features to progress on.
The Allier's cable ski park: cable-towed wakeboarding on a lake, plus Aqua Park, paddleboarding and camping in summer.
A lake, a cable running in a loop, and you hooked on behind it on a board. That is cable skiing: no boat, an overhead cable tows you for wakeboarding, water skiing or kneeboarding. The circuit goes right round the lake, with features for anyone who wants to throw some jumps.
If you are a beginner, kneeboarding (kneeling on the board) is stable and very forgiving. You start there, take the turns, then move on to standing up when you feel ready. Experienced riders play on the kickers and the funbox.
On site, it is not just the cable. In summer, the inflatable Aqua Park, paddleboarding, pedalos and canoeing are added. La Paillote serves food facing the water, and a natural camping area lets you stay the night on the site.
Why we love it
- The overhead cable that tows you in a loop around the lake, with no boat or licence
- The kickers and the funbox for anyone who wants to throw some jumps
- The inflatable Aqua Park in high summer
- A table at La Paillote, facing the water
Top tip
Closed on Tuesdays. The cable opens from April, but the Aqua Park, paddleboarding and pedalos are in July and August. Book your slot online on the busiest summer weekends.
