Woodland and granite (circuit no. 17)

A waymarked circuit that is very immersive, in a wild and unspoilt natural setting. You climb fairly steep paths between Montmiot and Foncuberte, then head into a narrow forest path towards Vollore-Montagne. The circuit then follows stony paths that sometimes demand real physical effort to get through a few tricky sections. It then comes back down along little-used but very pretty paths, which then offer lovely views over this "mountain" area. The circuit then heads for Aubusson d'Auvergne, which you reach by a fairly steep path that comes out above the ruins of the old Château de Montgon. After a quick crossing of the village of Aubusson, the circuit goes round the Lac d'Aubusson before reaching Tournebize and La Souche, and returning via Champblanc after crossing the little valley of the Espinasse stream.
