Peyre-Mayou

Start: Opposite the town hall in Saint-Pierre-la-Bourlhonne, go to the church on the right and take the D66 to the left. On leaving the village, climb to the left along a small road. After the hamlets of Le Missonnier and La Grangette (500 m after La Grangette, view over the Fossat valley), you reach Le Goth-de-la-Montagne.

1. Turn left after this hamlet, then left again 50 m further on. Climb a cobbled path.

2. Turn right onto the D40, then left onto the footpath that passes to the left of the chalet. Cross the D40 again to follow the track opposite. At the Roches-Brunes stream, take the path on the left for 20 m, then climb again to the left on a very stony path. At the fork, keep left again.

3. Turn right onto the cross-country ski trail and continue to a clearing. Bear left before a ruin, towards “Chalet de la Roche”. Leave a path on the right and climb to the left.

4. 250 m further on, leave the forest track and take the second path on the left; go past a wet area and skirt it, keeping it on your left, through beech woodland.

5. At the edge of the wood, climb straight on across the heather moorland (view to the left of the Peyre-Mayou rocks).

6. At the Col de la Chamboite, climb a very

stony path, marked out with red posts (département boundary). Keep to the main path ahead. Level with the Peyre-Mayou rocks (out and back to the summit possible), turn onto the footpath on the right, go through the small gate and follow the fence on the left. Go alongside the airfield and, at the wider path, take it to the left. Go down to reach the Col du Béal.

7. Cross the tarmac road (shortcut: continue on the road for 500 m, then follow the track that goes down on the left), then go straight ahead behind the inn. Turn left at the orientation table and carry straight on through the heather, and also at the crossing of paths.

8. At the jasseries du Béal (mountain herders' huts), carry straight on. Continue on the track to the left, which you leave on the right by a path going down.

9. Take a wide track on the left, then go down to the right after 300 m.

10. At the junction, turn left, then cross a first and a second road. Take the third road on the left for 100 m before leaving it on the right for a path. At the house, turn left onto the small road to rejoin the D40, which you follow to the right to Saint-Pierre-la-Bourlhonne.
