The feel of the route

This route is accessible to most people thanks to a low elevation gain and, above all, gentle gradients. The only difficulty is the final climb from Courpière. You will join the Route des Fromages d'Auvergne (Auvergne cheese route) at Pont-Astier, where the Garmy dairy is located (2nd street on the left after the sign). In Lezoux, you can visit the musée départemental de la Céramique (the departmental ceramics museum) or call on a few craft potters to discover a trade that was practised by more than 1,200 potters between the 1st and the 4th century AD. At that time, this town was the most important centre of sigillata ceramics production in the western Roman Empire.
