9 - Family outing at the Lizieux

Sleeping volcanoes... This intensely green landscape brings out all the more the sucs (volcanic peaks), cone-shaped sleeping volcanoes. These landscapes, unique in France, were shaped 12 million years ago, at the time the Alps were forming. As you approach the summit of the Pic du Lizieux, more and more stones break the surface. This strange grey rock that splits into sheets, phonolite, is a rock that rings. Also called “lauze” (stone roofing slab), it was used for roofs. Many traces of old quarries remain nonetheless, and the top of the Pic du Lizieux is a perfect example.

The start of this circuit is at the transformer car park, after the Besset farm, coming from Le Mazet-Saint-Voy, at La Bataille.

This route follows wide, easy tracks and crosses the Lizieux forest for a family outing. The site lends itself easily to a moment of relaxation and discovery, with a picnic area on site, dry toilets, … On the Bonas car park side, you will find a play area for children (game of the goose, play and recreation equipment, …) and a fine view from the Pierre Levée to Mont Mézenc.
