Our take
A glass dome framed by two towers, a mosque that can hold 1,500 worshippers, and guided visits by appointment on Wednesday afternoons, for associations and school groups.
Great mosque opened in 2010: a prayer hall with room for 1,500, a glass dome and two towers. Guided visit by appointment.
In the Carmes district, on rue du Docteur Nivet, the Grande Mosquée de Clermont et d'Auvergne was inaugurated in January 2010. Its large glass dome, framed by two towers, marks the district and lets daylight into the prayer hall. The mosque can hold 1,500 worshippers, and Arabic classes are given there at weekends. A place of worship for the Muslim community of the Clermont urban area. To discover it from the inside, make an appointment with the secretary's office before you come: guided visits are open to associations and school groups on Wednesday afternoons, outside prayer times.
Why we love it
