Our take

Amusement park and wildlife park on the same ticket: grandparents, teenagers and 3-year-olds each find something for them. The region's big day out.

The editors · Teddy L.How we choose our places

Amusement park and wildlife park combined in the Allier: 31 attractions, more than 1,000 animals, and lodges facing the savannah to extend the day.

Le PAL, in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Besbre in the Allier, is in a category of its own: an amusement park AND a wildlife park over some forty hectares, with 31 attractions and more than 1,000 animals. It is the big day out in the region (700,000 visitors in 2025, among the top 5 parks in France) and one of the rare places where grandparents, teenagers and 3-year-olds each find something for them.

On the practical side: open from April to the end of September from 10:00. Allow the full day, and the park itself recommends two days to do everything (the animal circuit alone takes 3 hours in its long version). Online tickets are always cheaper than at the ticket desk (dated ticket from €33, undated ticket valid for the whole season), free for children under one metre, free car parks, picnics allowed and twelve places to eat on site.

Recent additions set the tone: balloon gondolas have replaced the historic monorail, and 2026 sees the opening of the Delta des Éléphants, two hectares for Asian elephants. To extend your stay, the Savane and Hippopotame lodges and the Savana Reserve hotel put the savannah right outside your windows, park tickets included (from around €340 for two with dinner and breakfast).

Why we love it

  • 31 attractions and more than 1,000 animals on one ticket
  • The Delta des Éléphants, a new 2-hectare territory (2026)
  • Sleeping in a lodge facing the African plain, tickets included
  • Cheaper tickets online, free car parks, picnics allowed

Top tip

Buy the dated ticket online (the cheapest) and arrive for the 10:00 opening: attractions in the morning, animal circuit in the afternoon. Shuttles leave from Moulins and Vichy stations (€2.30) if you do not have a car.

Before you go

  • The 2026 season is over: the park is closed until at least the end of March 2027, and 2027 stays start on 10 April. In October 2026, only guests of the Lodges can enter the wildlife park, on certain days, from 10:00 to 17:00.
  • Online tickets are cheaper than at the ticket desk, and the undated ticket is valid for the whole season
  • The park recommends two days; the animal circuit alone takes 3 hours in its long version
  • Picnics allowed, free car parks
  • Free for children under one metre
