The feel of the route

Lac de Devesset: Located at 1,100 metres above sea level, Lac de Devesset overlooks the mountains of the Velay and the Vivarais. In 1164, the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem set up a commandery. They inherited the possessions of the Templars in 1310. During the Hundred Years' War, the château was destroyed. It was rebuilt, then burned down during the wars of religion in 1580. Today, only the Saint-Pierre tower remains. Located in a Natura 2000 zone, the lake offers a leafy setting in which to enjoy water and nature: sandy beach, laid-out lakeside path with viewpoints and jetties, snack bar, picnic tables, water-sports leisure centre…

The route in detail

This circuit is only for fit riders and mountain bike enthusiasts. The first 10 kilometres to the Moulin de Bayle alternate climbs and descents on country paths. The crossing of the Ardèche plateau (fine view of Mont Mézenc) and the circuit of Lac de Devesset are fairly smooth. From the top of the Plafay wood to Charel, the descent is technical and fun. One last short climb in the Peybroussou wood, then you arrive by a fine descent in the village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon.
