27 - The Loire between Gerbizon and Miaune
Start: Bords de Loire à Retournac
The Loire has many faces! Take your bike to discover the one this circuit offers you. Starting from Retournac, on the riverbank, you will head for Retournaguet through the Sagnes woods. Arriving at Sagnes, you will enter the forests of Mont Gerbizon and come back down on the Chamalières-sur-Loire side, with its fine priory church in the Auvergne Romanesque style. Head into the Miaune forest, the better to go round it, and then descend to Retournac, passing close to Artites, Le Corset and Vousse. You will follow the Loire before arriving in the town centre and returning to your starting point!

The feel of the route
The remains of the Château d'Artias at Retournac
Perched at 723 metres on a rocky spur, this site offers a 360° view over the meanders of the Loire. Already known at the end of the 10th century, it is one of the oldest castles in the Velay. Among the surviving remains, you can see today the ruins of the wall of the old living quarters, the old courtyard and the chapel. A resolutely romantic atmosphere, to be discovered right next to this circuit!
